Beckenham Christmas Lights Appeal

The Beckenham Christmas Lights Committee – a volunteer group of local residents – is raising funds again for this year’s festive display. To make sure the lights can be ordered in time, they need to reach a good portion of the target by mid-October.

If you’re thinking of donating, an early contribution would be especially helpful.

  2. Last year, the Christmas lights were hired. The primary costs of the scheme are associated with installation, insurance, stress testing fixtures, electrical testing and the lights themselves. While purchasing lights for reuse each year is an option, it brings ongoing responsibilities and expenses. Purchased lights must be stored, maintained, and tested annually, services that would still need to be provided by a lighting company. Hiring lights from the same company, however, includes all of these services plus the costs of installation. It also offers greater flexibility, allowing the display to be updated or adjusted each year depending on the funds raised. Town centres with large displays, such as Beckenham, tend to hire their Christmas lights.
