Consultation: Clare House Primary School Proposed Expansion to Two-Form Entry

Clare House Junior School on Oakwood Avenue has announced its intention to consult on a proposal to expand from one to two forms of entry from September 2015, with the total number of children at the school eventually reaching 432.

The school has taken a ‘bulge’ class this year and in the two previous years due to the shortage of school places for Bromley children.  Clare House is also embarking on major changes with the construction of a new building and demolition of the existing one granted planning approval today by Bromley Council.

The school welcomes any views or comments on its proposals.  This can be done by: writing directly to the head teacher at Clare House Primary School, Oakwood Avenue, Beckenham BR3 6PJ; or sending an email to admin@clarehouse.bromley.sch.uk.  Please include your name and address in any correspondence.  The school is also holding an open public meeting on Wednesday 17th September 2014 between 3.30 and 6.30pm at the school.  The closing date for responses to the consultation is Wednesday 15th October 2014.

Worsley Bridge Primary School Expansion

Worsley Bridge Primary School on Brackley Road is set to double in size after winning planning permission last week to build a new, two-storey classroom wing.  The new building will sit perpendicular to the existing main school building, facing onto the playground and backing onto Abbey Lane.

The former two-form entry junior school, which took children from ages 7 – 11, converted to a ‘full primary’ status in 2013, opening two reception forms last September.

Takeaway refused planning permission

The application for a change of use of No. 10 High Street from a retail unit to a takeaway was refused planning permission last week.  The shop, situated near to Beckenham Junction Station, between Airbrush Nail Bar and Kaplan Kebab House, was formerly a hairdressers.  The Council’s reasons for refusal included loss of a viable A1 retail unit and that the proposal would result in a detrimental impact upon the levels of criminal and anti-social behaviour, noise and general disturbance harmful to the character of the area and the amenities of neighbouring residents.

New Dental Surgery planned next to Tesco Express

Change of use has been granted for 418-420 Croydon Road, the empty furniture shop between Tesco Express and Regal Dry Cleaners, to convert it to a dental surgery. Oasis Dental practice, based in Bristol, won consent for the long-vacant, ground floor, double unit last week . The earlier application to convert the units to a children’s cafe was withdrawn.
