We contacted Leander Sports and Leisure who have outline planning permission to redevelop and regenerate Kent County Cricket Ground on Worsley Bridge Road to get an update.
The site is still being redeveloped and a detailed planning application will be submitted to Bromley Council for a decision by the end of the summer (hopefully September). Leander have confirmed that subject to Council approval work will start on that site as soon as possible and that this will involve bringing heavy machinery on to the site. Leander have appointed a contractor (Galliford Try plc) and their architects (Paul Davis & Partners Architects) are currently outlining a program of works.
Sadly little cricket will be played on the site this year due to the planned works. However Leander have retained the groundsman and have advised that having previously won the County Out Ground of the Year Award they have no intention of letting the ground deteriorate.
The Copers Cope Area Residents’Association supported the planning application for a housing estate on registered open land. Is it in the interest of local peoples? Certainly not. A shame……
Its an absolute disgrace that yet another pieces of green land is being developed! We don’t need more houses, especially within an area whose infrastructure cannot sustain the current population.
Leander didn’t mind letting the ground deteriorate on the large section of land which is to built over for housing on Metropolitan Open Land when it suited the requirements of their planning application!! Still a shocking decision by the Council to allow this development…
