Bromley Council’s survey to seek views on the proposal to relocate the library to the Beckenham Public Halls has been extended from 31 March to 7 April 2020. Under the proposal the existing library building in Clock House will be demolished and the site redeveloped for housing, this has caused controversy locally – find our more in our newsletter. We encourage local people to complete the survey online by 7 April here.
Essential we keep Beckenham Library on this site as it enjoys good parking, is increasingly well used and could be extended as the population is due to grow by 30,000. The Public Halls scheme is a disgrace, wasteful of public money as only half the existing library could be provided and no room for expansion. Council consultation should be suspended during Pandemic and proposal shelved in favour of further improvements at Beckenham Road location. If we ran our own Council in Beckenham we could avoid these upsets but Bromley refuse to delay the public engagement such as it is.
