Southend Road Beckenham closed from 10am tomorrow Sat 22 Oct 2016 for two weeks

Southend Road Beckenham will be closed from Saturday 22 October at 10am for up to two weeks.

This will allow Thames Water to carry out emergency repairs to a collapsed sewer.
The Council understands that the narrowness of the road, combined with the location of the sewer means that Thames Water’s deep excavation work can only be completed with a road closure.

Thames Water have agreed to work ‘extended hours’ 7 days a week to enable the road to re-open again as soon as possible.

The road will be closed between Brackley Road and Park Road with traffic diverted via Brackley Road, Copers Cope Road in both directions.

NHS Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) invites anyone who lives, works or studies in Bromley to meet the borough’s health leaders on Monday 26 September at an evening event at Bromley Central Library (High St, Bromley, Kent BR1 1EX).

Fully open to the public, the evening will get underway at 5.30pm with a ‘meet and greet’ marketplace event, followed by our annual general meeting (AGM) at 6.30pm and a question and answer session with our governing body. We expect to finish by 7.30pm.

The marketplace showcases health services on offer across Bromley, bringing together representatives from children and young people’s services, maternity services, mental health, cancer services, GP practices and many more. You can meet the people who buy, plan and monitor health services for you across Bromley, and:

  • Find out the age of your heart
  • Know your risk of developing diabetes
  • Assess your intake of alcohol and sugar
  • Check your heart rhythm
  • Enter our health raffle
  • Get involved in shaping our services

Find out more in the AGM about our achievements over the past 12 months, our financial performance, and our plans for the future.

Dr Andrew Parson, local GP and Clinical Chair of Bromley CCG, said: “Over the past year we have worked hard as a CCG to put patients first, improve health services in Bromley and deliver our vision of better health, better care and better value. Our AGM provides an excellent opportunity to show the public and our partners some of the work we have done together and our plans for the future.

“All our governing body members are local people, so they all have a real interest in making sure that healthcare services for the people of Bromley are the best that they can be.

“I encourage anyone who wants to find out what the CCG is about and how decisions are made to come along to our meeting. We look forward to hearing your questions about the services that matter to you.”

Team News

What has the team been up to?

On Thursday 7th the Copers Cope SNT worked along side the British Transport Police and British Railway enforcement officers at the Beckenham Jnt Station.

Our aim was to assist the enforcement officers with any passengers who may have been travelling without payment and also to spot any known suspects who travel into our area using the railway network, known shop lifters, gang members and others who intend to commit crime in Beckenham.

The team has made several arrests during the month notably for shop lifting offences. The team has also recovered a stolen moped this has now been restored to the rightful owner.

We have been in contact with the Citroen Garage in Copers Cope Road and there is definitely an improvement outside the premises regarding parked vehicles.

Please contact us if you have any issues or concerns in the area.

General Crime Overview

We are always looking for residents to join our Neighbourhood Watch and also for people to act as co-ordinators in their local area. If you are interested in helping to make Beckenham a safer place then please contact us on the details above. You can make a real difference in making Beckenham a safer place.

Shoplifting offences appear to be improving in the High Street in the last month. We will continue with regular patrols and liase with shops and encourage the use of the shop safe radio. The business watch scheme seems to be working and we have had a few calls from shops where suspects have been recognized.

Burglary continues to be a main issue, particulary garage and shed burglaries. These offences have been taken place recently in areas close to Copers Cope Road and The Avenue. The most vulnerable and where offences have been taken place are those who have garages that are en-bloc to flats.

Vehicle crime, theft from motor vehicles, in particular vans where tools have been taken. If you are having any work done at your address please warn the owner to lock their vehicles and to have any valuables hidden from view.

Phone thefts have occurred recently in areas such as parks in the Bromley borough. Some of these offences have come about due to the new ‘Pokemon Go’ craze that has started where suspects are robbing victims whilst using the their phones using the new app. If you or anyone you know plays this game please be aware.

Scam Alerts Bromley Borough – July 2016

Copers Cope Police  have received details of scams that have been happening in the Bromley Borough.

Scam 1

Residents in Bromley are reporting they are receiving telephone calls from a company claiming to be working with Bromley Council and offering to assist with previous accidents claims. One 90 year old resident received repeated calls from the company, calling themselves Accident Investigation Service, telling him he had been awarded £3,000 in compensation for an accident in the borough and that he would have to pay £200 in cash in order to claim it.

Scam 2

A Bromley resident has been scammed into paying thousands of pounds for bogus property repairs. The consumer, an older female, was cold called by two men claiming to working on the property next door and who told her there were significant damp problems in the loft. She was asked to pay several thousand pounds for the hire of essential equipment in order that emergency repairs could be conducted. She was later told the work was no longer necessary and she would be refunded, but in order to do so a further payment would be required for financial regulations. Trading Standards were alerted to the incident when the resident went to her bank to make further cash withdrawals.

Scam 3

A tree company has door knocked an 80 year old male in Petts Wood and persuaded him to part with money for gardening work. An initial payment of £400 was made and the gang were due to return the following day to collect a further £1,100. The family of the resident alerted trading standards who attended and confronted the gang, who then ran off. They were driving a lorry with the words “Local Tree Services”.

Trading Standards are reminding residents to:

  • be suspicious
  • never deal on the doorstep
  • never be pressured into making quick decisions
  • never give personal or bank details top anyone
