Phase 3 works:
Completed Works
Further stakeholder consultation
Another meeting with the business community has been arranged for the 25th September 2017 at 18.45 at the Public Halls, 4 Bromley Road, BR3 5JE. The businesses likely to be affected by the Phase 3 works will be contacted directly. All businesses are welcome to attend and ask questions but the meeting is generally about the operating practices during the current phase of works.
Traffic Management Issues.
From Tuesday 29th August the High Street from the War Memorial to Thornton’s Corner will be one way. The direction of traffic will move northeast, from the War Memorial to Thornton’s Corner with diversions on Rectory Road. This one way system will be in place until the end of November 2017 when works will be suspended for the Christmas period. In January 2018 temporary one way traffic flow will be reintroduced.
Concerns have been raised regarding traffic flow at the junction with Thornton’s Corner. TfL have investigated this issue and have adjusted them to regulate the green light timings to account for traffic flow at certain times of the day. The left turn from one section of the High Street to the other is, presently much sharper for buses, due to the works outside Kelsey Park House on the opposite corner. Buses are currently slowing to avoid safety barriers therefore forcing vehicles from Manor Road and Kelsey Park Road to wait. As the work progresses along this section of the High Street, the situation will improve.
(For reference some works such as traffic signals and power connections are conducted by outside agencies such as Transport for London and UKPN. The project does not have control of these works).
The High Street from Thorntons Corner to Beckenham Junction has remained one directional. Consideration by the Councils Highways Department and TfL has concluded that this is the best solution during the remainder of the works. It is considered that despite diversions signs some cars would continue to drive south from Bromley Road junction and cause traffic management problems when confronted with the one directional traffic management for the High Street between Thorntons Corner and the War Memorial.
New road closures and bus diversions are in place. Helen McConnell can supply a copy of the new bus stops at the below email address.
Check out our fabulous line up of free entertainment at Market On The Green tomorrow. Come along to enjoy the performers, grab some lunch and browse the market stalls.
Get the kids down to Beckenham Green on Saturday morning for a free Yoga session especially designed for the little ones (mums and dads can join in too) courtesy of local Yoga teacher Silvia Sanchis from Omazing Yogis.
Stick around on the Green to enjoy Market on the Green, with 40 stalls of street food, local produce and craft. Plus funfair, face paining and sand art.
If that is not enough to keep you occupied, there is free entertainment on stage from 11.30am to 3.30pm, including very special guest (look-a-like) Superman who will be on stage at 11.30 for a hero’s dance party. Check out the full event details here.

Don’t miss US singer-songwriter Lilac Sheer performing songs from her recent album A Different Country at Market On The Green on Beckenham Green (next to St George’s Church on Saturday 23rd September at 1.3opm and 2.30pm.
A Different Country

LILAC SHEER
The album A Different Country was released in August of 2016.
The single Queen of Hollywood ranked #1 most added on US FMQB A/C chart it’s release week and charted at #9.
Stylistically compared to the likes of Alanis Morissette and Jewel, Americana singer-songwriter Lilac Sheer sings of her experiences of the world through the eyes of a girl who grew up in a religious home, served in the army, lived on different continents and wrote music intensively throughout, all of which culminate in A Different Country, an album of unique artistry and depth, that is bound to play on heartstrings you never knew you had.
Two pieces of good news from our Copers Cope police team. First, a big welcome to our new District Ward Officer, Jade Bowyer. Second, she will be joining DWO Stuart Inglis at the Market on the Green on 23 September to meet the community and distribute tamper-proof car licence plate nuts. Stuart and Jade will be around the Green from midday.
Tamper-proof car licence nuts are well worth fitting as they prevent the nuisance of theft of your licence plates and stop wider knock-on crimes like driving off of garage forecourts without paying for fuel. Pick up a set, free while stocks last, after midday from the police team on the Copers Cope Area Residents’ Association (CCARA) gazebo.
Is it a Bird?…Is it a Plane?… its…. Superman!!.
Superman (look-a-like) will be flying in to Market On The Green at 11.30 for a hero’s dance party on stage. Come along and meet the most powerful being on the planet!!

The Bridge Bar nightclub (formerly Langtry’s) at Beckenham Junction has been granted an extension to its licensing hours and can now operate until 3am.
The application received many objections from local residents, Copers Cope Police, Councillors and, of course, our Association, all concerned about the noise and potential increase in antisocial behaviour due to increased drinking hours, and the lack of infrastructure to deal with all-night clubbing in Beckenham.
The Council decided to grant the application amended as follows:
Subject to the following additional conditions:

Proposed changes to NHS prescriptions in Bromley
NHS Bromley CCG is seeking the views of the public on proposed changes to what is available on prescription in Bromley. The CCG is proposing to no longer support the routine prescribing of health supplements and self-care medications for short term minor illnesses and injuries that will get better over time.
Dr Andrew Parson, Clinical Chair of the CCG said, “We want to support people to lead longer, healthier lives in Bromley. We want them to take care of their minor ailments and injuries at home and seek help when it is needed.
“After careful consideration and discussion with local health professionals and our GP members, we are proposing to no longer support the routine prescribing of health supplements and self-care medications for acute illnesses that will get better over time.
“The Bromley population is growing and we have to carefully consider how we use our finite resources to get the best health and wellbeing outcomes for our residents. By asking people to purchase their own self-care medicines such as paracetomol, antihistamines, cough medicines etc, we could potentially save up to a £1million which can be better spent on other health treatments. This proposal could also help to ease the pressure on GPs by reducing the amount of time spent seeing patients with minor ailments that could be treated at home and have more time to support those with complex health conditions.
“We encourage people to keep a well-stocked medicine cabinet at home and seek advice from their pharmacist for minor ailments and injuries. Pharmacists are experienced clinicians who can provide a range of advice. They will also advise when someone does need to see their GP”.
The medicines covered in this proposal can be purchased from a pharmacy or a supermarket. This is not just a Bromley proposal. NHS England recently announced that efforts need to be made to get better value for money in the NHS and eliminate waste. CCGs in other parts of the country have either already implemented similar arrangements or are in the process of doing so.
To have your say on these proposals please read the proposal leaflet on the CCG website at www.bromleyccg.nhs.uk and use the online survey. You can also email brooccg.contactus@nhs.net or call 01689 866544
Views are being sought up to 8 October and a decision will be made at the Bromley CCG Governing Body meeting on 16 November 2017 which is held in public.
